Management Health Solutions, Inc. Acquires AtPar Inc., Further Enhancing Clinical Materials Management for Hospitals

Management Health Solutions, Inc. (MHS), the leading provider of clinical inventory solutions to the nation’s hospitals and healthcare providers, announced today its acquisition of AtPar Inc., a leading developer of mobile supply chain software.

The acquisition advances MHS’s clinical inventory management solution and is the organization’s next step in helping hospitals curb the rising cost of healthcare through innovative clinical materials management processes.
AtPar’s mobile technology complements MHS’s Optimal Inventory Control (OPTICSM) – the company’s tested process of counting, content maintenance and optimizing a hospital’s clinical materials inventory.  Further, the acquisition increases the number of hospitals it serves by more than 200 providers, bringing the company’s total partnerships to nearly 500 in approximately 30 states. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Clinical supplies are often the second largest cost that a hospital incurs, and every hospital is under pressure to achieve a greater ROI using fewer resources,” said William Zierolf, president and CEO of Management Health Solutions, Inc. “We understand those financial pressures, and like many industry experts calling for greater efficiency, know that a better supply chain process can make a significant financial difference often worth millions of dollars.
“AtPar allows us to offer better solutions to hospitals.  The AtPar mobile solution saves hospitals time and dollars. In fact, a typical 400-bed hospital can save millions with the use of our system and technology. Having worked with AtPar as a partner for two years, we understand the value that will be created for our clients with the integration of these combined products and services.”
Leading industry experts are pointing to supply chain and materials management as a key area of cost savings, according to recent reports in HFM Magazine, the publication developed for the nation’s healthcare financial managers by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).  The area is a primary focus due to continuing reimbursement pressure, an economy on the mend from a recession and changes resulting from healthcare reform in Washington D.C.

Today, MHS works with nearly 300 hospitals and health systems across the country to tackle those challenges and help them reduce the cost of clinical inventory by 30 to 40 percent. AtPar’s suite of integrated, feature-rich handheld and touch screen devices (i) ensure accuracy in inventory counts and replenishment, (ii) automate supply ordering and reordering, (iii) coordinate delivery of products and (iv) capture patient charges eliminating an unautomated process of paperwork at a hospital that often has never been updated.  AtPar’s mobile technology perfectly dovetails with MHS’s services and products.
“Becoming part of the MHS organization makes perfect sense, not only for us as a company but more importantly for our hospital partners who rely on the cost savings found through clinical materials management,” says Kameswara Vysyaraju, president and CEO of AtPar Inc.  Vysyaraju will continue as general manager of the AtPar division within MHS.
“At a time of significant change in the healthcare industry, the addition of AtPar to MHS provides a solution that hospitals and healthcare providers need to be successful.”
INCREASED OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL MARKETS
The acquisition extends MHS’s reach throughout the nation.  Headquartered in Fairfield, Conn., MHS has additional operations in Sarasota, Fla. and Los Angeles, Calif.  The company currently works with such national leaders in healthcare as Kaiser Permanente, UCLA Health System, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Catholic Healthcare West, Detroit Medical Center, Rush University Hospital, Advocate Health Care, Health Management Associates, Hospital Corporation of America, New York Presbyterian Hospital, North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Children’s Hospital Boston.
MHS will continue AtPar’s operations at its headquarters in Lebanon, N.H., and through AtPar’s additional offices in Richmond, Va., Chicago, Ill. and Northern California.
Effective with the acquisition, all AtPar employees will join MHS in their current location and positions.
“MHS is in a period of growth and expansion and we only anticipate the AtPar partnership will increase opportunities for additional employees at every level in every location,” said Zierolf.
